The Voice (USA TV Show)

The best singers from all over the country are invited to compete on “The Voice”, NBC’s hit singing competition show. The show is different because it has four stages of competition: the blind auditions, the battle rounds, knockouts, and the live performance shows. The Voice is different from other reality singing and talent shows because the judges decide who moves on based only on how the singers perform. The judges don’t know who was singing until a judge chooses a contestant and spins their chair around, or if the contestant isn’t chosen at all.

The Voice Virtual Open Call

The Voice USA announces the launch of the Virtual Open Call Auditions and can’t wait to listen to your performance! Please make sure you are familiar with all of the requirements before beginning.

Sign in to your Artist Account and select the Virtual Open Call option if you haven’t already submitted an application for a Virtual Open Call.

How to sign up for it:

  • After logging into your artist account, select the Virtual Open Call button or touch it. (In order to move on, you will need to finish the agreements.)
  • Choose a date and time for your audition, and then watch the countdown clock start ticking. You will get a confirmation email on the date and time of your VOC.
  • You will also be reminded of yourThe Voice Audition via email the day before it is scheduled to take place.

The best way to get ready:

  • You should have at least one verse and one chorus of a song ready for your audition.
  • At this audition, you will have one minute and thirty seconds (1:30) to demonstrate your skills.
  • Make use of this opportunity to 1) tell us who you are, 2) tell us the name of the song you are going to sing, and then 3) perform the song.
  • You have the option of singing unaccompanied, with the accompaniment of an instrument, or to a pre-recorded track.
  • BEFORE you enter the virtual audition room, make sure that everything is set up and ready to go, especially if you are going to be playing an instrument or singing along with a track.
  • When it is time for your VOC audition, here is what you should do:
  • Please ensure that you are in your Artist Account on the day of your planned Virtual Open Call audition.
  • The Virtual Open Call page will appear just below where your name and Artist Account number are displayed on this screen. If you get there early, you can watch the countdown meter on the screen.
  • When it is your turn to audition, you will see a blue button that you need to click to get started with your audition. A countdown of ten seconds will be presented to you before the recording begins.
  • When we are ready to begin recording, please take a moment to identify yourself, tell us which song you will be doing, and then begin singing!
  • After you have handed in your audition, a member of The Voice USA Casting Team will look it over and give feedback.
  • You will get an email with the results of your The Voice Audition not long after you have submitted your information. You can also view your findings by logging into the Artist Account that you have created for yourself.

The Voice Auditions

  • Extremely Vital! Do not pretend to be someone you are not. Embrace your individuality as an artist and let it shine through in the video you submit.
  • Pick a cover that showcases your talents as a singer and performer.
  • You want to make a good impression, so dress the part! Dress as if you were going to a “Blind Audition,” and you will.
  • Don’t forget to enjoy yourself! Exhibit your liveliness and character. Please give us a SHOW!
  • You can sing with a backing track, play an instrument, or bring in an orchestra.
  • Please record using a high-quality camera, computer, iPhone, or Galaxy smartphone.
  • Make sure your recording equipment is close enough to the source material if you do not have a microphone.
  • Please restrain yourself from utilizing too much of the following recording effects: reverb, compression, tuning, and vocal boosters. Please don’t try to censor yourself; we want to hear you as you are.
  • Make sure to videotape your performance somewhere quiet and undisrupted (e.g. unexpected sounds like a dog barking, a baby crying, or loud neighbors). Nothing that would detract from your performance, including special effects or props, is necessary.
  • Listen to and watch The Voice Resultof your tests. What about the sound quality? Is the audio skewed in any way? Perhaps the microphone is too close or too far away from you. Make any necessary adjustments, then try again.
  • Everybody likes a space with some echo or reverb, but too much of either can be annoying. You might want to rethink your surroundings if it sounds like you’re in a cave.
  • Make sure you record in a quiet, clutter-free room (e.g., no dirty dishes, laundry, or unmade beds behind you). During the time that you are filming your audition, your roommate or family member should not be sitting on the couch munching on chips and watching TV.
  • Be sure the light is shining brightly on you, particularly your face (lamps or natural light work best). Be sure that you can see well by placing the light directly in front of you. Keep the lights away from your back.
  • Do your best to center the camera so that people can see your entire performance. Don’t have the camera pointed at your noggin or cut off your head. Verify that the lens is focused properly.
