An American reality competition program called RuPaul’s Drag Race was created by World of Wonder for Logo TV and then VH1. This wiki is also focused on it. The host, mentor, chief judge, and inspiration for this series, which follows RuPaul’s hunt for “America’s Next Drag Queen,” is drag superstar RuPaul.
The program received the go-ahead in May 2008, and it debuted on Logo in the US on February 2, 2009. The show has been shown in numerous countries, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latin America, Spain, Sweden, the Philippines, and the UK. Netflix, a streaming service, has all 13 seasons of the show accessible in many of these locations.
Six All Stars seasons, fourteen seasons of Untucked, and six All Stars seasons have all been produced to far (13 for the regular seasons and 4 for All Stars). Additionally, there have been 12 international spinoffs in Australia, Asia, North America, South America, and Europe.
During its first season, the program was noted as the most viewed series on Logo, and during its second, it rose to the top spot for most episodes streamed on Logo TV. The music “Drag Race – Original Theme” and title sequence of the program both have a “drag racing” theme, playing on the terms drag queen and racing. The ninth season of this program was transferred from the Logo TV Network to VH1, while the episodes continued to run on Logo TV the following week.
There are streaming options for RuPaul’s Drag Race on STAN in Australia, WOW Presents+ globally, and Netflix in the UK and Brazil. In its 18th season, the program was simultaneously broadcast on six networks: VH1, LogoTV, The CW, MTV, MTV2, and PopTV.
RuPaul Drag Race has won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Competition Program every year since its tenth season. 180 different candidates have competed on the program thus far, and two of them have passed away.
RuPaul said that this season would not have any eliminations in the first episode. Throughout the week, the top two queens will each receive a Legendary Legend Star. The contestants will then participate in a lip-synch competition for your legacy and a $10,000 cash tip, but unlike past All Stars seasons, queens won’t have the ability to reject contestants. The top queen will instead have the authority to prevent a fellow competitor from being awarded a Legendary Legend Star the next week. At the conclusion of the competition, the four queens with the greatest number of Legendary Legend Stars will compete in a Lip Sync LaLaPaRuza for $200,000 and the title of “Queen of Queens.”
It’s not the first season that politics have been overtly present, as shown in Season 12. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Democrat Nancy Pelosi, made a fleeting appearance in the All Stars 2018 season.
In season eight of 2016, contestants were required to create smear campaigns against one another, whereas in season three of 2011 there were messages of support for US troops.
However, some Drag Race experts assert that the show is inherently political, even when it doesn’t explicitly address current events in Washington. According to Mikelle Street, digital director of Out magazine, Drag Race has always proved that people come for the drag, but you stay because you fall in love with these queer people.
Shea Couleé felt like the season five winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars on Friday night (July 24), when her cover of Janelle Monáe’s “Make Me Feel” catapulted her to the top. Who among the Drag Race winners is the best?
Some of these celebrities eventually built up their own fan bases in the music and fashion industries, as seen by season seven winner Violet Chachki delaying the launch of her A Lot More Me North American tour until later this fall. She was one of the first drag queens to front a women’s lingerie commercial for Bettie Page Lingerie in 2017, and she so contributed to the history of drag.
Trixie Mattel, the All Stars season three winner, has been providing “electro-folk” songs like “Malibu” for years following the release of her debut EP.
In 2009, RuPaul’s Drag Race premiered on Logo. Since then, the show has grown to be a worldwide success on VH1, and RuPaul has received 11 Emmys, making him the most-honored Black artist in the history of the awards.
The show has now been brought to foreign countries that host their own spin-offs, including as the United Kingdom, Canada, Thailand, Spain, France, Italy, the Philippines, and more by the production firm World of Wonder.
Season 15 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, the Emmy-winning reality series, has been renewed by VH1, and it will feature the 200th episode.
The franchise recently crowned two new winners: Season 14 fan favorite Willow Pill and All Stars 7 queen Jinkx Monsoon, who recently became the first queen to win Drag Race twice when she triumphed at the end of the show’s first-ever all-winners edition. The network revealed the news on Monday, revealing that a new group of queens will enter the Work Room for a 15th round of competition.
